I sent a letter to the Chronicle:

It is a sad truth in our ageist society that the 70-year-old Yan can mix up the accelerator and the brake pedal, injure 15 people and still have a chance of keeping his license, when if he were 16-years-old, Yan would have been the poster boy for even further ridiculous age restrictions on young drivers.
